Soccer Team Loses 1st Under Coach Cho, 1-0

The national soccer team has lost its first game under coach Cho Kwang-rae.

The Taegeuk Warriors lost to Iran in an exhibition game, 1-0, at Seoul World Cup Stadium Tuesday. Masoud Shojaei scored the only goal in the 35th minute on a counterattack after Korean defender Lee Young-pyo committed an error.

Cho had led Korea to victory in his first game as coach in a 2-1 win over Nigeria last month.

Korea had England-based stars Park Ji-sung and Lee Chung-yong in the game as well as AS Monaco striker Park Chu-young but blew a number of scoring chances. The team failed to score for the first time in six A-matches.

The match also marked the return to Korea of Iran coach Afshin Ghotbi, who was a technical adviser to the Korean team in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.

Iran stayed unbeaten in its last six games against Korea with four wins and two draws.

Korea's next test will be against archrival Japan October 12th in Seoul.
