S.Korea, Russia at Odds over 3rd Rocket Launch

South Korea and Russia are at odds over a third launch of Korea's “Naro” space rocket.

South Korea’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced on August 15th an agreement with Russia for a third launch of the rocket, following meetings of the two countries’ joint Failure Review Board.

But the Russian company that developed the first-stage booster for the Naro is denying that any agreement has been made between the two sides on an additional launch.

A high-level official at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute refuted the Russian firm’s claim, saying that representatives from the two sides held a meeting to draw up the agreement, which was then signed by South Korean and Russian chief delegates.

South Korea says that the launch will take place next year but that the exact date has not been finalized.

Seoul failed in its bids to put a satellite in orbit via the Naro in 2009 and in June of this year.
