'Mobile No. to Show Even When Using Wi-Fi'

Those who use the combined fixed and mobile telecommunication service called “Fixed Mobile Convergence(FMC)” on their phones will now have their mobile numbers appear on recipients’ caller IDs even when making calls using Wi-Fi.

The Korea Communications Commission says a new service will have the 0-1-0 mobile phone numbers of those who use Internet telephones with FMC terminals appear on recipients’ caller IDs rather than Internet phone numbers that start with 0-7-0.

Users of the Fixed Mobile Convergence plan use the same phone for both cellular and Internet calls. The affordable service allows subscribers to make and receive calls at any location with Wi-Fi access.

The move was sought due to the rising number of complaints by FMC service users that the indication of the 0-7-0 Internet phone number was inconvenient.
