Joint Probe Meeting on Naro Held in Moscow

A joint South Korean-Russian committee investigating the second failed launch of Korea's first space rocket, the "Naro," held a meeting in Moscow last week.

The Education, Science and Technology Ministry said that during the five-day meeting, Russian scientists presented their detailed analysis on the Russian-built first stage of the rocket, while South Korean scientists presented their analysis on the second stage, which was built by South Korea.

The two sides agreed that a powerful shock in the rocket occurred 136 seconds after liftoff, which caused an immediate communications failure. They say a possible second explosion may have followed.

In the committee meeting, the two sides agreed to conduct additional analysis and tests on the possible reasons for the failed launch.

A third committee meeting will be held August ninth through the 13th in Daejeon.
