Germany Edges Uruguay to Finish 3rd in WC

Germany has defeated Uruguay, 3-2, to claim third place for the second straight World Cup in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Thomas Muller opened the scoring in the 19th minute Saturday. Edinson Cavani equalized for Uruguay nine minutes later, then the South Americans took the lead after Diego Forlan scored on a volley.

Marcell Jansen tied the score for Germany within four minutes, and Sami Khedira put in the winning goal in the 82nd minute with a header from a corner kick.

Spain and the Netherlands will meet in the final Sunday evening in Johannesburg. Each team is seeking its first World Cup title.
