Veteran Goalie Expects Win over Nigeria

Veteran goalie Lee Woon-jae says he expects the national soccer team to beat Nigeria in its final Group B game and advance to the second round of the World Cup.

He told reporters after practice in Rustenburg's Olympic Park Stadium that the team has a game more important than its two earlier contests, adding players are undergoing thorough preparation and expect a good result.

Lee says after watching Nigeria's games, he found that the Africans often launch long-range shots, and that the South Korean defense needs to protect against this.

The goalie is in his fourth World Cup but has been benched in favor of the younger Jung Sung-ryong in front of the net in the first two games. Lee has made 129 appearances for the national team dating back to the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.

Lee also warned against complacency in the Nigeria game despite the Africans missing key player Sani Kaita due to a red card, saying Nigeria is still strong with world-class players.
