Forward Gonzalo Higuain had a hat trick as Argentina brought South Korea back down to earth in a dominating 4-1 win. The game was the second World Cup Group B match for both teams.
Higuain scored once in the first half and twice in the second as the two-time World Cup champion controlled the game and took sole possession of the Group B lead.
Park Chu-young in the 16th minute became just the second South Korean player to score against his own team in a World Cup. Lionel Messi launched a free kick that bounced off Park's shin and into the net.
Higuain doubled Argentina's lead in the 33rd minute on a header.
Lee Chung-yong scored right before halftime to cut Argentina's lead to 2-1. He stole the ball from unsuspecting defender Martin Demichelis and slotted the ball home to give South Korea hope.
In the second half, Yeom Ki-hun had a chance to tie the score in the 57th minute but missed an opportune shot.
Then Argentina took over with constant attacks that left South Korea scrambling to defend. Higuain scored an easy goal in the 76th minute after a Messi shot bounced off the post and right into Higuain's legs. Then just four minutes later, Higuain headed home a floating cross for the game's final score.
