S.Korea, Russia Begin Joint Probe on Failed Naro Launch

South Korea and Russia will begin a joint probe into the failed second launch of Korea's first space rocket "Naro."

The Science and Technology Ministry in Seoul says the initial meeting of the bilateral joint inspection committee will be held Monday at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province.

It is the first official meeting of experts between the two sides since the failed launch on Thursday.

The meeting will discuss the inspection committee's operation and an exchange of information analyzed by both sides.

Two pieces of floating matter found in the waters south of Jeju Island were confirmed to be the remains of the rocket's first-stage booster. Russian inspectors are analyzing the seriously damaged debris, but say they are shedding little light on what caused the rocket's midair explosion.
