World Cup Win Gains Int'l Media Attention

Major global media outlets say South Korea's national soccer team did not miss goal-scoring chances in its 2-0 win against Greece in the opener of the World Cup.

The Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun put on the front page a photo of team captain Park Ji-sung's reaction after scoring his goal. The paper says his squad easily defeated the 2004 European champion Greece.

The Mainichi Shumbun also says the Taegeuk Warriors took the lead early in the game and Park solidified the lead with a second goal.

The Tokyo Shimbun says the team overwhelmed Greece in power and skills, secured three points, and took a step closer to the second round.

Other major media including the Associated Press, AFP, and Xinhua of China was quick to cover South Korea's victory.
