S. Korean Navy Recovers Rocket Debris

The South Korean Navy has recovered debris that may be part of the space rocket "Naro" that exploded during its ascent on Thursday.

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) said that debris measuring a few dozen centimeters was picked up from international waters south of Jeju Island.

KARI officials will visit a naval base in Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province on Friday to pick up the rocket part.

In a news briefing Thursday conducted immediately after the failed launch, the institute said that debris from the Naro was presumed to have fallen into international waters south of Jeju Island, some 470 kilometers from the space center.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said that efforts to recover additional debris will be conducted through close consultation with Russia.
