Naro to Launch at 5:01 PM Thursday

The nation has rescheduled the launch of the Naro space rocket for 5:01 p.m. on Thursday. The launch was aborted on Wednesday due to a malfunction of fire extinguishing equipment.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology says that weather conditions are ideal for the launch and that corrective measures have been taken on the extinguishing equipment.

The ministry said scientists estimate a 40-minute launch window starting at 5:01 p.m. for the rocket in order to keep the satellite on the Naro from colliding into other objects in space after it enters orbit.

The Naro Space Center began preparations to fuel the rocket on Thursday morning. Access to areas near the launch pad has been restricted as a safety precaution.

An automatic countdown will begin 15 minutes prior to launch. The first-stage engine will ignite just under four seconds before launch, and the Naro will take off when 142 tons of thrust is produced.
