The online edition of the U.S. weekly magazine Sports Illustrated says the winner of the South Korea-Greece game in Group B will advance to the second round of the World Cup soccer finals.
Columnist Jonathan Wilson says all the stamina, pace and determination of old seems to be in place for South Korea, but that the team has this time has a goal-scoring edge in Park Chu-young. Wilson says Park will provide a useful link between the midfield and veteran striker Lee Dong-gook.
But the columnist says the Taegeuk Warriors are vulnerable in defense and inconsistent given a 3-0 loss to China in February and then a 2-0 win over Ivory Coast a month later.
Wilson also named captain Park Ji-sung as one of the players to watch in Group B, saying the Manchester United star offers experience, a calm head and an industrious example.
Wilson says South Korea is probably better and at least aesthetically more pleasing than Greece, but that the Greeks could dominate at set-piece plays. He says Greece also has a better schedule in that it plays Nigeria in its second game and then Argentina, which probably will have qualified for the knockout stage by then.
If South Korea can beat Greece, it will theoretically have an easy final group game against Nigeria, which might have been eliminated then.
