S. Korea Shuts Out Japan in Friendly, 2-0

The national soccer team scored early and late in shutting out host Japan, 2-0, in an exhibition game at Saitama Stadium Monday evening.

Team captain Park Ji-sung opened the scoring in the sixth minute by unleashing a blast right in front of the penalty box past Japanese goalie Seigo Narazaki. The ball just barely went into the lower left corner of the net.

South Korea continually frustrated Japan's attempts at penetrating throughout the game. The waning moments of the second half saw Park Chu-young fouled on a drive in the penalty box by Narazaki, who got a yellow card.

The AS Monaco striker calmly slotted the ball home for the game's final score and his 14th goal in 39 international games.

The win was South Korea's 40th against Japan since 1954 against 12 losses and 20 draws.

The Taegeuk Warriors will travel to Austria for training camp and play Belarus May 30th and Spain June 3rd in exhibition games.

North Korea will play Greece in an exhibition game Tuesday in Austria. Greece is South Korea's first opponent in next month's World Cup in South Africa.
