Usain Bolt Wins 100 Meters at Daegu Meet

Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt has won the 100 meters at the Colorful Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting.

He won Wednesday with a time of 9.86 seconds in his season debut, breaking Tyson Gay’s mark of 9.94 set in the same tournament last year.

Bolt told MBC TV that he has a high chance of setting a new world record next year, when Daegu will host the IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

The Jamaican holds the world record of 9.58 in the 100 meters set at last year’s world championships in Berlin.

The Korean male record in the 100 meters is 10.34 seconds set by Seo Mal-gu in the 1979 Universiade in Mexico.

The track and field event at Daegu Stadium attracted more than 30,000 spectators, the most in Korean history. The event was also the world's first to be aired live via 3-D terrestrial broadcasting.
