North Korean Affairs Experts indicated surprise Monday, at the North's broadcasting Sunday's hour-long edited version of the June 18th World Cup match in which South Korea beat Italy 2-1 to advance into the quarter-finals. The (North) Korean Central TV televised the Taejeon match from 10 p.m. Sunday. Pyongyang media have typically aired international matches involving South Korea only when the South lost. An expert said it is astonishing that the North broadcast the match with a commentary that the victory contributed to boosting the morale of South Korean players. North Korean televisions have been airing major World Cup games, except in which South Korea participated, on a tape-delayed basis every day since the May 31st opening of the World Cup.
