Seoul to Submit 2022 World Cup Bid Next Week

South Korea has taken the first step in its bid to host the 2022 World Cup.

Officials of the 2022 World Cup Bid Committee will submit South Korea's application at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday.

The 2022 bid is expected to be a five-way competition between South Korea, the U.S., Japan, Qatar and Australia.

Chairman of Seoul's bid committee Han Sung-joo expressed confidence, saying South Korea has a clear advantage.

FIFA will send a survey team to South Korea from July 22nd to the 25th. The world's soccer governing body will announce the host countries for both the 2018 and the 2022 games on December second.

If South Korea wins the bid, the tournament will come 20 years after the nation hosted the 2002 World Cup jointly with Japan.
