'S Korean Becomes 1st Woman to Scale Highest Peaks'

The Nepalese government and the Nepal Mountaineering Association have reportedly confirmed that South Korean climber Oh Eun-sun has become the first woman to scale the world’s 14 tallest mountains.

Oh’s rival, Edurne Pasaban of Spain, has questioned whether Oh reached the summit of Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest peak.

Oh scaled Annapurna last week, the last of the 14 peaks above eight-thousand meters that she needed to climb to set the mark. She reached the summit 13 years after she conquered her first Himalayan mountain, Gasherbrum-Two, in 1997.

The Associated Press (AP) quoted Oh as saying that she would take a break from climbing for the next three or four years.
