A team of local scientists says it has developed a technology that improves the light extraction efficiency of blue light-emitting diodes (LED) by more than 30 percent.

The team, led by Professor Jung Gun-young of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, said Wednesday it was able to enhance the light extraction efficiency without affecting the LED electrode structure in low temperatures by using zinc oxide sub-microrods.

The research results were published in a recent edition of the materials science journal “Advanced Functional Materials.”
