S.Korea Setting Sights on Space

South Korea is ushering in a new era of space science.

The nation will use the Naro-1 rocket to make its second attempt to place a scientific satellite into orbit later this year, two years after Korea’s first astronaut, Yi Soyeon, traveled into space.

Korean scientists are also making preparations for a scientific space exploration mission.

A research team at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has developed a lunar module with the aim of conducting a moon exploration mission in the 2020s.

Korea is also part of a global project to develop the Giant Magellan Telescope in Chile.
