First Stage Rocket of Naro Arrives at Space Center

The main booster rocket for the nation's second attempt to launch its first space rocket has arrived at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province.

The Education, Science and Technology Ministry said Monday that the first-stage rocket manufactured by Russia was airlifted to Gimhae Airport last weekend. It was then shipped by a barge to the space center. A scientific satellite that will be put into orbit aboard the Naro will be moved to the space center this week.

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute plans to conduct various tests and checkups on the rocket before assembling it to a second stage rocket.

The launch of the Naro rocket will likely come in early June, considering that the time it takes to put the parts together along with the final checkups usually take about two months.
