New DNA Analysis Technology Developed

Prosecutors have developed a new DNA analysis technology customized for Koreans.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office said Sunday that it jointly developed the technology with a Seoul National University team and has applied for a patent.

The technology allows simultaneous comparison and analysis of 17 genes included in 23 sets of human chromosomes, with an enhanced level of accuracy and identification than foreign technologies.

The office says the breakthrough is especially effective in identifying the DNA of Koreans.

If commercialized, the technology is expected to allow domestic production of DNA analysis kits and save a significant amount of budget.
