The nation has developed a technology for designing a nuclear reactor core for atomic power plants.

The Korea Electric Power Research Institute and the Korea Power Engineering Company says they have developed a software program that controls nuclear chain reactions in a reactor.

The program is considered a key technology in the local development of a nuclear reactor for atomic power plants.

The South Korean government plans to domestically develop by 2012 all core technologies needed for building nuclear power plants.
