Genealogy of 600 Indigenous Plants Mapped Out

The National Institute of Biological Resources says it has mapped out the genealogies of 600 indigenous Korean plants and creatures.

The agency, which began research on biodiversity on the Korean Peninsula last year, has confirmed the origins of and relationships between 600 different species.

It also found for the first time that the 123 species of spiders living in Korea belong to one of two groups: those inclined to settle in one place and others who change their habitations.

The genealogical tables for dragonflies, chrysanthemums and mushrooms have also been mapped out by the agency.
