S.Korean Team Discovers Wandering Globular Cluster

A domestic research team says it has discovered the existence of massive globular clusters between galaxies.

The huge groups of “wandering” stars were discovered by the team in the Virgo Galaxy Cluster, some 54 million light years away from Earth.

The team, led by Professor Lee Myung-gyoon of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Seoul National University, says theories about the existence of such clusters have existed for 20 years, but none have ever been proven.

The cluster discovered is believed to have originated in the earliest years of the history of the universe.

U.S. Science magazine published the find in its Science Express corner.
