Nuclear Policy Experts to Gather in Seoul

International experts and officials on nuclear policies will gather for a meeting in Seoul next week to discuss the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The organizing committee for the Summit of Honor on Atoms for Peace and Environment (SHAPE) said Monday that it will hold its first general assembly from Wednesday to Saturday in Seoul.

The meeting, which will draw about 150 nuclear policy officials and specialists from 19 countries, will be cochaired by South Korea's former President Kim Young-sam and former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei.

During the conference, the participants will discuss a nuclear-free world, the future of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and multinational cooperation for nuclear security.

The organizing committee says it plans to set up a secretariat in Seoul.
