S.Korea to Issue Commemorative Coins for Kim Yu-na

Coins will be issued to commemorate South Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na, the nation’s first Winter Olympic gold medalist outside of short track and speed skating.

The Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) said the coins are to commemorate the emotions and joy following Kim’s amazing run at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Manufactured by the Perth Mint in Australia, the coins will come in quarter-ounce gold and one-ounce silver varieties. The front of the coins will show an image of her free skating performance during the Games, her signature and the KOC logo.

The coins will be on sale starting Monday. The gold coins will sell for 880-thousand won and the silver for 121-thousand won.
