South Korea's Kim Yu-na has set a world record to win a gold medal in women's figure skating at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
At the women's free skating competition held at the Pacific Coliseum on Friday (KST), Kim finished with a score of 150.06 for a combined total of 228.56 to clinch the Olympic gold medal.
Kim's score tops the previous world record of 201.03.
In the short program event held Wednesday, the South Korean figure skating star scored 78.50, which is also a world record.
Kim's rival Mao Asada of Japan grabbed the silver with 73.78 in the short program and 131.72 in her free skating routine for a combined total of 205.50. The bronze medal went to Joannie Rochette of Canada who scored 202.64.
Another South Korean Kwak Min-Jung finished 13th with a total score of 155.53.
South Korea currently sits in a two-way tie for fifth in terms of gold medals with six.
