Naro's Fairing Separation Tests End Successfully

Fairing separation tests on the nation's first space rocket, "Naro," ended successfully after two attempts.

The test was conducted at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute on Thursday.

The institute’s president, Lee Joo-jin, said that the test had reflected suggestions by a committee investigating the failure by Naro to put a satellite into orbit.

Lee said the institute completed improving electrical and mechanical equipment based on advice from the committee, adding that the institute is conducting continuous tests to confirm the improvements.

Lee said that the second launch of “Naro" will likely take place in early June after the first stage of the rocket, assembled in Russia, is delivered to South Korea.

In August of last year, the Naro rocket failed to send a satellite into orbit due to problems with the separation of a fairing covering the satellite.
