Skater Kim to Seek Olympic Gold Friday

Figure skater Kim Yu-na will aim to grab the nation’s first Olympic gold medal in figure skating on Friday at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Kim will skate 21st among 24 skaters in the women’s free skating event to be held at the Pacific Coliseum.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kim finished first in the short program event with a world record score of 78.50, around four-point-seven points ahead of Japanese rival Mao Asada who ranked second in Wednesday’s event.

Given that Kim is in good condition and that she will skate ahead of Asada, the possibilities are high that Kim will grab the gold medal.

Kim is scheduled to compete around 1:20 p.m., Korean time.
