Lee Sang-hwa Wins Speed Skating Olympic Gold

South Korea's Lee Sang-hwa has won a gold medal in the women's 500-meter speed skating event at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Lee won the event held at the Richmond Olympic Oval on Wednesday after clocking in with a two-round total of 76.09 seconds.

Lee finished first in the first of two races in the competition with a time of 38.24 seconds before capturing the gold in her second race by narrowly fending off Germany’s Jenny Wolf.

With the win, Lee has become the first South Korean woman speed skater to win a gold medal in the Olympics.

South Korea is now in a three-way tie for first in terms of gold medals with three.
