The national soccer team has rebounded with a convincing win over Japan in the East Asian Championships after suffering a humiliating defeat to China last week.
Korea got first-half goals from Lee Dong-gook and Lee Seung-reul, and Kim Jae-sung added an insurance goal in the second half in a 3-1 defeat of Japan in Tokyo Sunday.
China defeated Hong Kong, 2-0, to win the four-nation tournament. Korea finished second.
Japan opened the scoring after Kang Min-soo fouled Marcus Tulio Tanaka in the penalty box. Yasuhito Endo then converted the penalty kick as Japan led in the 23rd minute.
Korea tied the score nine minutes later on a penalty kick by Kim Dong-gook after Atsuto Uchida tripped Kim Bo-kyong.
Defender Tanaka was ejected shortly afterwards for a foul on Kang on a free kick.
Lee Seung-ryeol then blasted a spectacular looping shot from well outside of the penalty box. The ball went over Japanese goalie Seigo Narazaki and into the goal in the 38th minute.
In the second half, Kim Jung-woo was ejected after getting his second yellow card for a tackle, but Korea managed to frustrate Japan's attempts at goal.
Kim Jae-sung finished the scoring with a goal in the 70th minute.
