The government has fixed plans for the establishment of cutting-edge comprehensive medical complexes in Daegu, South Gyeongsang Province and Osong in North Chungcheong Province.

Under the current blueprint, the Daegu complex will center round synthetic drugs and high-tech medical devices that use information communication technology.

Meanwhile, the Osong complex will focus on biodrugs and biotechnology (BT), specializing in the latest biotech medical devices.

The complexes will be run by separate single foundations that will cover the centers to support the development of new medicine and medical devices as well as a center for animal lab testing.

For the successful establishment and operation of the complexes, the central and local governments will be teaming up with specialized institutions, including the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency.

They will collaborate in holding roadshows to bring in foreign investment and to hold events that would invite international companies.

Construction will begin in the second half of this year for completion by 2012.
