Korean researchers have developed what they say is the world's first technology to increase by over ten times the data processing speed of NOR flash memory chips.

NOR flash memory chips are often used in cell phones.

The Education Ministry says a Seoul National University team led by Professor Park Byung-kook successfully manipulated flat NOR flash elements into the shape of a cone.

The cone shape is expected to increase data processing speed by ten times and pump up the storage volume of 32 gigabyte memory chips.

Existing NOR memories currently have limited storage capacity but are able to process data fast so they are often used in making cell phones.
