Korea Finishes atop Sprint Skating Championships

South Korea has taken first place in both the men’s and women’s divisions for the first time ever at the World Sprint Speed Skating Championships in Obihiro, Japan.

On the final day of competition on Sunday, Lee Kyou-hyuk finished first in the one-thousand-meter skate with a time of one minute 9.60 seconds. Combined with his score during the 500-meter event on Saturday, Lee was able to finish in first place overall.

In the women's division, Lee Sang-hwa ended the day in first by edging out Japanese rival Sayuri Yoshii.
