The Korean organizing committee for the 2002 World Cup (KOWOC) said Tuesday ranking officials in the international soccer body will converge on Seoul for the kickoff of this year's FIFA World Cup finals. KOWOC said that most of the top brass in soccer will be in the country by the end of the week to attend the FIFA Congress next Wednesday and the opening ceremony of the finals May 31st. Sepp Blatter, the embattled chief of soccer's world governing body, will arrive in the country Thursday via Hong Kong. Other personalities scheduled to arrive in Korea this week are Julio Grodona, president of the Argentina Football Association, and Per Ravn Omdal, president of the Norwegian Football Federation and FIFA Executive Committee member. The two men will arrive Friday at Incheon International Airport along with Mohamed Hammam, the newly elected president of the Asia Football Confederation (AFC). In addition, FIFA General Secretary Michel Zen-Ruffinen will arrive on the same flight with Blatter, while Issa Hayatou, head of the African soccer confederation and contender for FIFA's top post, will arrive soon in the Korean capital though his exact itinerary has not been disclosed yet.
