A pro-Pyongyang newspaper in Japan reported Monday that FIFA President Sepp Blatter agreed with North Korean officials to render support to developing soccer in the North when he made a visit to Pyongyang early this month. The Internet edition of Chosun Shinbo, the newspaper of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), quoted Blatter as saying in an interview that the FIFA boss has reached the agreement with North Korean officials to push for a "goal project" aimed at developing the country's soccer infrastructure. The paper said that support will be made at the request of the (North) Korea Football Association. Under the project, soccer's world governing body will help the North train coaches and referees, and lay artificial turf at major soccer stadiums, including Kimilsung Stadium in Pyongyang.
