World Cup Main Press Center kick off operations

The Main Press Center (MPC) for 2002 FIFA World Cup finals began operations Sunday to house reporters from newspapers and wire services worldwide during the tournament. The MPC on the third floor of Seoul's Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX) is consisted of two separate working areas for writers and photo journalists and exclusive booths for worldwide news agencies. The joint writing room, 2,624 square meters in area, has an accommodation capacity for 704 reporters, 50 public telephones for data transmission, 64 terminals for "MIS (Media Information System) 2002," 21 printers and 60 TV sets. Covering a space of 418 square meters, the room for photo journalists will house facilities enabling 150 persons to develop and print films at one time. The room also has six telephone lines with which reporters can transmit photos at the maximum speed of 2 Gbps.
