Complete localization of nuclear power plant building technology, which has emerged as the main focus in Korean exports, is likely to be achieved six to 12 months before originally planned.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., held a meeting for developing nuclear power plant technology on Wednesday. It said it would increase the localization, or the percentage of Korea's capability in building nuclear power plants using its own technology, from the current 95 percent to 100 percent by October 2012.

Accordingly, the core design code will be completely developed by March 2010, and the safety analysis code by October 2012. Nuclear reactor design is regarded as a core technology in the design and operation of a nuclear power plant.

In addition, technology for the nuclear reactor coolant pump is scheduled for localization by June 2012, and the instrumentation and control system by July 2010.
