The government will introduce a project that aims to use satellites to estimate the nation’s potential rice harvests.

The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said Thursday that the trial project, which will begin next year, will focus on projecting rice yields through pictures taken from space.

Currently, the government draws up estimates on rice harvests based on a sample of some 30-thousand farms measuring around two hectares each.
