Guus Hiddink, head coach of the Korean national team, said Monday that with a little bit of luck, his players will be able to make it to the second round of the World Cup finals for the first time in the country's history. Speaking to reporters at the Paradise Hotel on Jeju Island, the Dutchman expressed caud cautious optimism about Korea's chances of making the last 16, adding that he was well aware of the expectations of the nation. He pointed out that while all previous host countries have made it to the second round in the past, it would be unfair to apply this standard to Korea and Japan as they are both emerging football nations as opposed to soccer heavyweights. Hiddink said his players have almost reached a target he set when taking up the position as head coach and added he was satisfied with the improvements in conditioning they had achieved over the past few months. Meanwhile, Hiddink hinted Sunday that there could be one or two changes to his squad after Sim Jae-won of Eintracht Frankfurt was called up to the squad with a view to replacing Lee Min-sung who is recovering from injury.
