Korea Seeking to Host 2012 Climate Summit

Korea is seeking to host the 18th U.N. Climate Change Conference for the first time in 2012.

President Lee Myung-bak will announce the bid in a keynote speech at this year’s U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen Thursday.

A member of the Korean delegation to Copenhagen says continents take turns hosting the event, and it will be Asia’s turn in 2012.

No Asian countries have made bids and no opposition has been detected against Korea’s bid.

This year’s climate summit opened Monday in the Danish capital.
