15,000 'Green Energy' Experts Targeted by 2012

A state-run think tank will seek to foster 15-thousand "green energy" experts by 2012 to deal with green growth and climate change.

The Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning submitted Sunday a report on green energy development strategies to the National Assembly.

The institute has a mid to long-term master plan to foster expertise in green energy by establishing a state support system for green energy research and development.

It will introduce green technology certification and think of ways to boost private investment in green industries.

The institute says green energy has a huge potential to create new markets and related investment is surging an annual 60 to 80 percent globally. It added that securing energy technologies on a global level is crucial for national competitiveness.

The report says the axis of economic growth is moving away from information technology toward green energy. The government will thus invest three trillion won in the sector by 2012 to raise its level of green energy technologies.
