Leonid Meteor Shower was a Stellar Show

A Leonid meteor shower lit up the eastern night sky early on Wednesday.

The Gwacheon National Science Museum said up to 100 meteors fell from the sky for around an hour near the Leo constellation.

According to the museum, the meteors became visible starting at midnight before shining the brightest around 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday.

The meteor shower occurs when the Earth passes through a meteoroid stream of particles that is left behind by the Comet Tempel-Tuttle.

Major science centers and astronomical observatories nationwide were packed starting late Tuesday with people hoping to catch a glimpse of the meteors.
