South Korea has advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIFA under-17 World Cup.

The team, led by coach Lee Gwang-jong, beat Mexico in penalty kicks after finishing regulation and extra time tied 1-1. The final score stood at 5-3.

This year’s squad, which prior to the Mexico game had already made it deeper into the tournament than any other Korean team since 1987, will now be able to compete for a spot in the semifinals.

Team Korea will face off against the winner of the match between Nigeria and New Zealand on Tuesday.
