Health authorities will provide local scientists with genetic material of the H1N1 influenza virus as part of efforts to promote research on the new flu.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday that it will begin sending to research institutes on Monday the genetic materials of the new flu that were secured from the first confirmed H1N1 patient in the nation.

The disease control agency said the move is expected to help better diagnose and treat H1N1.
