Veteran Runner Wins Final Race

Veteran marathoner Lee Bong-ju has won the final race of his illustrious career at the 90th National Sports Festival in Daejeon.

Lee crossed the finish line in two hours, 15 minutes and 25 seconds, completing the 42-kilometer Daejeon marathon for the 41st time.

Lee has been the representative runner of South Korea since he finished second in the race at the 1990 National Sports Festival. He then went on to win the silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and the gold medal in the 2001 Boston Marathon.

Lee holds South Korea’s top marathon time of two hours, seven minutes and 20 seconds, which he set in the 2000 Tokyo Marathon.
