Cyclist Choe Jong-gyun has won a gold medal, marking the first gold win at the 90th National Sports Festival under way in Daejeon.

Representing South Chungcheong Province, Choe took the top place in the men’s 15-kilometer scratch race.

In the women's 48 kg weightlifting event, Yim Jeong-hwa set the event’s first national record.

Yim lifted 87 kilograms in the snatch, breaking her previous record from the 2008 Beijing Olympics by a kilogram.

The National Sports Festival opened on Tuesday for a seven-day run.
