S.Korea, US Reaffirm Stance on Command Transfer Date

The Defense Ministry says South Korea and the United States remain unchanged on their timetable for the transfer of wartime operational command from the U.S. to Seoul.

Ministry spokesman Won Tae-je told a news briefing Monday that militaries of the two nations have repeatedly confirmed their intentions to push for the transfer as scheduled, while checking and assessing preparations and developments and reflecting them in the process of the transfer.

A ministry official said Seoul and Washington will check developments related to the transfer during the annual Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) next week. The official reemphasized that revising the timetable for the transfer will not be on the agenda.
