Korea brought home one gold and three silver medals from the third International Earth Science Olympiad held in Taiwan on Tuesday. All four of Korea’s representatives won a medal.

The Korea Earth Science Olympiad Society says Choi Jin-il, a freshman at Seoul Science High School, won the gold medal. The silvers went to Yuk Sim-chan and Im Do-won of the Korea Science Academy, and Sejong Science High School’s Jeong Taek-yun.

Some 110 students from 20 countries took part in this year’s competition.

The Olympiad began in 2007 to mark the UNESCO-designated International Year of Planet Earth and to help students better understand and preserve the planet.

The inaugural tournament was held in South Korea.
