A group of South Korean scientists says it has developed a technology for production of the new material graphene.

Professor Yoo Ji-beom of New Materials Engineering from Sungkyunkwan University said his team has developed a way to mass-produce graphene in a shorter period of time.

Graphene is a new graphite-based nano-material that can act as a semiconductor. It displays outstanding electron transport that is ten times faster than silicon, offering the prospect of ultrafast computers.

The research was jointly conducted with a team of Russian scientists and Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology.

The results were published in the U.S. science journal “Advanced Materials.”
